JDU Karnataka: Former Indian Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda established the regional political party Janata Dal (Secular) in July 1999. In the Indian state of Karnataka, this political party is acknowledged as a state party, furthermore in Arunachal Pradesh and Kerala.

HD Kumaraswamy is the leader of this party and the leader of the Lok Sabha. HD Deve Gowda is the party’s founder, president, and leader of the Rajya Sabha. The headquarters are located in Bengaluru, Karnataka, on JP Bhavan Platform Road in Seshadripuram.

How did the Janata Dal (JDU Karnataka) form?

The Janata Dal was founded in 1999 by JD Deve Gowda, who brought together several minor parties to create a coalition in opposition to the Indian National Congress.

As the leader of the United Front coalition government, HD Deve Gowda was appointed as prime minister of India. This time, 1999 was not looking well for the Janata Dal because it divided that year when a party led by Chief Minister JH Patel supported the National Democratic Alliance, which was led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, and gave rise to the Janata Dal under HD Deve Gowda and Siddaramaiah.

The party’s fortunes were further enhanced by the 2004 Karnataka assembly election, as the JD joined the state’s ruling alliance.
