About the Party
Janata Dal (United) goes on Gandhi, Lohia, Jaiprakash and Ambedkar ideology. In India’s Constitution, our belief and faith in socialism, secularism and the principles of democracy. JD(U) has been formed on the basis of the political heritage of the views, ideals, and values of the great men of the freedom movement of India.
The founders of the JD(U) are Sri J.H Patel, Sri Ramakrishna Hegde, Sri George Fernandez, and Sri Sharad Yadav. The party traces its roots to the Janata Party, founded (in Bangalore) by Sri Jayaprakash Narayan, the stalwart who united all anti-Congress parties during the emergency in Indira Gandhi’s reign.
Mahima J PatelState President of JDU
Nitish Kumar, often known as the Chanakya of Bihar politics, served as a minister in the Union Government of India and is the present Chief Minister of Bihar. During his early years as a politician, he was often inspired by Jayaprakash Narayan, Ram Manohar Lohia, S.N Sinha, and VP Singh. He participated in Jayaprakash Narayan’s movement between 1974 and 1977. In his tenure as the railway minister of India, he introduced the Tatkal scheme for instant booking of tickets. As the chief minister, his flagship scheme, Mukhyamantri Balika Cycle Yojana was initiated. He worked towards several socio-economic reforms. During his tenure, the state of Bihar has seen a decrease in infant mortality rate, female illiteracy, and crime rate.
He was born on 1 July 1947 in a farmers’ family of modest means at Akhmau village in Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh. Educated at Robertson College and Jabalpur Engineering College, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh in B.E. (Civil). President, Students Union, Jabalpur, Engineering College, 1971; influenced by the teachings of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia; active youth leader and participated in a number of mass movements; Detained under MISA during 1969-70, 1972 and 1975; played a significant role in the implementation of Mandal Commission recommendations.
Sharad Yadav has won four times in 1991, 1996, 1999 and 2009 from Bihar’s Madhepura Lok Sabha constituency from where Acharya Kriplani was elected in 1957. He also won thrice from other Lok Sabha constituencies. He has been defeated thrice from Madhepura constituency – twice by Lalu Prasad Yadav in 1998 and 2004 and by Pappu Yadav of RJD in 2014.
He was elected the first time from Jabalpur (MP) constituency of Lok Sabha in 1974. It was the time when JP Movement was at the peak and he was the first candidate chosen by Shri Jai Prakash Narayan for political arena on election symbol of Haldar Kisan. Again, he was elected from the same constituency in 1977. He was elected from Badaun (UP) Lok Sabha constituency in the year 1989. Thereafter, he has been contesting from Madhepura Lok Sabha constituency except in the by-election caused by Lalu Yadav resigning his seat in 2004.
Mr. C. Byre Gowda was a senior legislator and cabinet minister of Karnataka state, having served as an M.L.A. for five consequent terms. He was agriculture minister from 1996 to 1999 in the cabinet of chief minister J.H. Patel.
Mr. Nagegowda K.N. was born on February 1st, 1944. The second son of Kempegowda and Choudamma, Nagegowda got his primary and high school education in Malavalli itself. He joined to Vijaya Pre-University College in 1963 and later completed his Engineering graduation at PES College, Mandya. He was an able leader since his student life. He became the president of Mandya district Congress committee in 1974, two times Member of Legislative Council, and served as Minister of Animal Husbandry and as Major Irrigation Minister in Karnataka Government. Under his tenure, he proved himself as a true leader.
He possessed an analytical mind, and an infinite capacity for work, a knack for human relations. He was a real academician, politician and a man of generosity. His quick and dashing decisions proved his real leadership qualities and became a role model for many people. A great practitioner who believes in practicing what he preaches. His dreams are brought to reality. ‘Vision, Perseverance, and Determination to succeed’ was the motto of his life. A self-confessed workaholic he has always been a man with a vision. He believes that all rural students are equally capable and is of the opinion that they should channelize their efforts in the right direction. He died on February 5th, 2004.

His core beliefs in integrity, love, and mutual co-operation have helped him achieve personal success and also lead a powerful life. He believes in people’s potential, grit, and equality such as giving equal chances to everyone irrespective of religion, caste, gender, social status, etc.
